The production process of bread iron in an induction furnace is as follows: the raw materials for the molten iron in the induction furnace are generally steel mill waste or iron concentrate. These are melted into molten iron using an induction melting furnace. The molten iron from the induction furnace is then poured into bread iron molds in a casting machine, and cooled by circulating water spray to produce finished bread iron.

The main equipment for producing bread iron in an induction furnace is the casting machine. Its basic structure includes a head wheel assembly, a tail wheel assembly, a tensioning device, a conveyor chain, a cast iron mold, a reciprocating guide wheel group, a reducer, a variable frequency speed regulating motor (electromagnetic speed regulating motor), etc.

The casting machine is generally installed with a chain track inclined at 6°-9°. Bread iron molds are fixed on the track. As the chain track rolls, the overhead crane slowly tilts the molten iron tank of the induction furnace. The molten iron in the tank flows into the bread iron molds and passes through a circulating water spray cooling zone. The molten iron from the induction furnace cools to form finished bread iron. Depending on the amount of iron poured from the induction furnace, the temperature of the molten iron, and the speed at which the overhead crane pours the molten iron, the chain track needs to run at different speeds. Because the bread iron molds are filled with molten iron, the chain track requires smooth operation during acceleration, deceleration, and running. To meet the process requirements, a variable frequency speed regulator is selected to drive the motor. The control adopts on-site and centralized control. The on-site control uses a potentiometer for speed regulation, and the acceleration and deceleration use an S-curve acceleration and deceleration.

The calculation of the bread iron production capacity of the casting machine includes two parts: one is the production capacity of the casting machine itself, expressed in hourly output; the other is the comprehensive production capacity of the entire casting machine unit, expressed in 24 hours per day.

The hourly output of the double-chain casting machine is calculated according to the formula: q1=0.12q2v/t.

Where q1—hourly output of the double-chain casting machine, tons/hour;

  q2—actual weight of the cast iron block, kg;

  v—running speed of the chain, m/min;

  t—center distance between two adjacent cast iron molds, m;

  0.12—unit conversion coefficient, i.e., 2×60÷1000=0.12.
