History of Induction Melting


The first technically feasible induction furnaces were based on the principle of core-type furnaces.

The first induction furnace, built in 1899 by the Swedish engineer Källin.

In the early 1930s, the coreless induction furnace, alongside the development of high-frequency furnaces, exerted a significant influence on industry.

After World War II, medium-frequency (MF) and high-frequency (HF) crucible furnaces were the first to be developed.

Next came the era of power-frequency (LF) coreless induction furnaces.

In the early 1980s, with the advancement of thyristor technology, induction melting experienced new developments.

The inverter efficiency has improved from approximately 60% at the time to around 80%, and now reaches 97–98%.

The higher the coil current frequency and the greater its adaptability, the more a converter‑type coreless furnace of the same capacity can operate at approximately three times the furnace chamber power level without compromising melting performance.
